In 2010, the service sector accounted for 54,5% of the city’s GDP, and expanded at year-on-year 12%, higher than the average growth rate of the whole country.

In the year, Intel Group (the US), Sanyo and Nidec Groups (Japan) invested billions of US dollars in high- tech projects in HCMC. This year, the US-based First Solar Group committed to investing US $1billion in building a solar cell plant in the city.

Sài Gòn High Tech Park (SHTP) has attracted leading groups and companies from the US, EU and Japan, which has raised up the reputation of the SHTP.

In the next decade, HCMC will strive to create breakthroughs in enhancing the capacity of scientific research, creativity and scientific renovation; increase the contribution of science and technology to the changing of economic structure, said Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Lê Hoàng Quân.

In addition, the city will focus on improving the skill of the workforce, aiming to raise it to the same level of other regional countries. It also plans to develop a strategy to attract local and foreign human resources.
