On May 23rd, 2012, the Provincial Department of Science & Technology held Scientific Council to approve the project “Building model of green-skin pomelo production under VietGAP in Song Xoai Commune, Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province” headed by Ma. Mai Van Tri – Deputy Director of Center for Southern West Fruit tree race research.

On May 23rd, 2012, the Provincial Department of Science & Technology held Scientific Council to approve the project “Building model of green-skin pomelo production under VietGAP in Song Xoai Commune, Tan Thanh district, Ba Ria – Vung Tau province” headed by Ma. Mai Van Tri – Deputy Director of Center for Southern West Fruit tree race research.

Song Xoai is an agricultural commune with many potential of development of green-skin pomelo. Total commune has about 85 ha area of green-skin pomelo grown in gardens. Nowadays, some households have high income from growing pomelo but many households have unstable income because of lack of experience of cultivation, output is still low and unstable, products do not meet standard on food safety yet, so consumption faces a lot of difficulties.

Model of applying technique progress to produce green-skin pomelo under VietGAP standard may help garden houses to increase output from 15 – 20% in comparison with general production, better quality, guarantee safety of food sanitation. Support garden house to change habits of old, outdated cultivation, to improve economic effectiveness and create prestige in the market. Scientific Council agrees with high rate for the project to be deployed.
