On June 10th, at Song Xoai commune of Tan Thanh district, the Centre for Science and Technology Information and Statistics (Department of Science and Technology) in cooperation with the Farmers Association of Tan Thanh district held a workshop on the topic "New biochemical products to use in high-tech cultivation and to cope with the impact of climate change on agriculture". The facilitator was Dr. Nguyen Dang Nghia - the Tropical Agricultural Research and Consultancy Centre.

Attending the workshop was Mr. Hoang Trong Nghia - Chairman of Farmers Union of Tan Thanh District and more than 90 farmers from Song Xoai and Hac Dich commune.

New generation bio-fertilizers and pesticides were introduced to farmers by the facilitator to give them access to information of safer agricultural products. This is especially important given the fact that every year, about 10 million tons of fertilizers of different kinds and dozens of thousands tons of pesticides are used in the agriculture sector across Vietnam. The overuse of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has been seriously effecting the environment and human health. However, with  recent technological developments, they have been emerged several types of fertilizers and pesticides which are environmental friendly and very much in line with the trend of sustainable agriculture.

According to Dr. Nguyen Dang Nghia, new generation fertilizers is a new trend of applying technology in agriculture. These types of fertilizers can help boost crop yields, improve soil health and have very less impact on the environment. Recent agricultural researches and production focus on organic fertilizers from biochar (biochar), specialized fertilizers, functional fertilizers and nano-tech fertilizers…

After the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Dang Nghia visited several farms and and gave detail instructions on how to use the new generation fertilizers on grapefruits – a major products of Hac Dich and Song Xoai commune.
