Conference on "Application of Biotechnology in Agriculture and Sustainable Development"

On the morning of November 13th, in Ba Ria city, the Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances -Department of Science and Technology held a conference on "Application of Biotechnology in Agriculture and Sustainable Development " The conference was co-chaired by Mr. Do Huu Hien - Director of Center for Application of Scientific and Technological Advances, Mr. Nguyen Chi Duc - Director of theDepartment of Planting and Plant Protection. Participants in the conference includes experts from Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City, Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology –Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City and delegates from local departments, agencies, business and cooperatives in the province.

The conferencewas organized to assess the current status of the agricultural sector in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with the aim to raise awareness of government, farmers and cooperatives on the applications of Biotechnology. From there, agencies and individuals and businesses are equipped with more information to access and apply biotechnology for local economic development.

 

 At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Hoa Xo - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City  introduced the research "Development of biotechnology in breeding selection for hi-tech agriculture in Southeast Vietnam"and"Application of microorganisms to produce biological products at SIAMB used in hi-tech agriculture"by MSc. Bui Hong Quan - Institute of Biotechnology and Food Technology. 

 

Following presentations by experts was the active discussion between participants. Topics of interest included solutions to some of the challenges faced in biotechnology application in agriculture and sustainable development. Solving these issues help promoting hi-tech agriculture, thus contributing to modernize local economy and promote socio-economic development of the province.
