On June 18, the Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Department of Science and Technology jointly organized a workshop on the coastal strip of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, development potential and risks due to natural and human impacts, research and solutions.

The conference had the participation of a large number of professors, associate professors, and scientific researchers from the provinces of the Southeast region.

Reporting to the conference, Dr. Truong Thanh Cong, Chairman of the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, said that Ba Ria - Vung Tau is a coastal province with many potentials and conditions for economic development, especially the marine economy. With 156km of coastline stretching from Ganh Rai Bay to Binh Chau, it is an important gateway to the maritime transportation system of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and the Southeast region...

However, the coastal strip of the province is also affected by climate change such as storms, sea level rise, coastal erosion... In addition, human activities in the process of industrialization and urbanization also causes negative impacts on the environment and the economic and social development of coastal areas.

At the conference, delegates heard reports on the current status of erosion and sedimentation, the scope and level of impact of climate change, and coastal protection works. From that situation, scientists have presented papers offering scientific solutions to overcome coastal erosion and coastal impacts such as: technology of assembled components to protect river and lake banks, and sea dikes made of non-metallic reinforced concrete; studies on processes affecting coastal areas and shoreline changes...
