On April 22, 2024, the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province organized an Advisory Council to evaluate and accept the results of the pilot project "Building a VietGAP longan production model in the organic direction in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province". The topic is chaired by MSc. Chu Trung Kien. The Southern Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology is the host agency. Attending the Council, there was Mr. Tran Duy Tam Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology who is the Chairman of the Council.

The project is implemented with the goal of improving the quality and economic value of longan fruit, contributing to the sustainable development of longan trees in the organic direction according to the province's policy of developing high-tech agriculture.

In Ba Ria - Vung Tau, longan is the main fruit tree with the largest area in the province. According to Resolution No. 38/NQ-HDND of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, in 2018 on the approval of the agricultural development plan of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province to 2025, with a vision to 2030, the agricultural planning target for the longan area is very large, accounting for 1,810 hectares (in 2025) and 2,390 hectares (in 2030). This shows that longan has a particularly important position and role in the development orientation of the province's agricultural sector.

After more than 30 months of implementation, the project has achieved the following results:

- Building 30 hectares of VietGAP longan production model in an organic direction, economic efficiency > 35% compared to traditional production, environmentally friendly, having production - consumption linkage, exceeding 10 hectares of VietGAP certification and economic efficiency 10% higher than the plan.

- Applying information technology to build 2 sets of QR codes integrated with traceability stamps for Long My Agricultural Cooperative and Edor Longan Production Cooperative in Phu Quy hamlet to meet the plan in the explanation.

- Developing an organic VietGAP longan cultivation technical process applied to the longan growing area of ​​Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

- Coordinating with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to issue planting area codes for 15 hectares of Xuong Cơm Vang longan in Long My commune, Dat Do district.

Evaluating the implementation results, the Council members agreed that the project basically solved the project's objectives and research method contents. However, the Council also analyzed and clarified a number of contents to complete according to comments from Council members.
