On the morning of June 27, the Department of Science and Technology organized a conference to launch the 2024 Aquaculture Innovation Contest in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province with the theme "Green transformation - Innovation to develop sustainable fisheries industry". Attending the conference were Mr. Tran Duy Tam Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology - Chairing the conference, along with representatives of leaders of departments, branches, experts, associations, and innovative startups in the province.

Since 2020, the Department of Science and Technology has coordinated with the Directorate of Fisheries, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province along with the accompanying units and sponsors - Syenergy and Development Viet company limited that is a startup developed from the province's startup support program and many related organizations to organize the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Aquaculture Innovation Contest. The competition aims to find and develop technological solutions and innovations for enhancing value and solving problems of the fisheries industry in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Duy Tam Thanh said that after 4 years, the Contest has received attention and participation from inside and outside projects of the province, there were many new solutions developed in the Contest, as well as bringing developed solutions closer to businesses and markets. The Contest had more participation from leading experts in the fisheries sectors, businesses, associations, and fisheries management agencies.

He hoped that the contest will be widely popularized, attracting the attention of not only many competing solutions and projects, but also from agencies, organizations, businesses, and experts to work together to build an innovation ecosystem in the fisheries industry, to jointly support the development and application of projects, thereby helping to promote the sustainable development of the fisheries industry."

In 2024, the Contest will attract projects and ideas in 02 competition tables: idea table (for solutions in the idea stage) and project and model table (for solutions that have been, being implemented in practice). This is also an opportunity for agencies, institutes, universities/colleges, experts and businesses to meet, connect and develop innovative solutions to solve current local problems, and contribute to promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam's fisheries industry.

Participants are individuals, organizations, and businesses with technology and innovation solutions suitable for the contest field nationwide. At the same time, the Contest also expands the number of participants for unlimited solutions from both domestically and internationally. The deadline for receiving applications for the preliminary round is before August 15, 2024, expected to be held in September 2024. Semi-finals of the Contest (online/live) and in October 2024, the Contest Final will be held.
