Leaders of the PPC worked with the DOST

On the second of April 2008, the BR – VT PPC held a meeting, chaired by Mr. Tran Minh Sanh, the PPC Chaiman to review DoST’s executive results and achievements of the approved yearly plan of 2007 as well as to discuss advantage and disadvantage of implementation of yearly plan 2008 and the progress of pilot project on preventing coastal erosion and study of anti-water whirlpool in the province.

The participants of the meeting were representatives from the Provincial People’s Council, the DOST, the Department of Foreign Affair, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Department of Construction, the Department of Finance, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Fishery, the Department of Tourism, the Provincial Military Headquarter, Xuyen Moc district and Vung tau City.

 

On behalf of DoST, Dr. Truong Thanh Cong, Director reported DoST’s executive results and achievements of the approved yearly plan of 2007 and plans of implementation of scientific and technological tasks in 2008.

 

According to Dr. Cong, DoST has fulfilled assigned yearly plan 2007. Based on this results, for efficient implementation of assigned yearly plan 2008, DoST will focus on the following mission: conduct scientific research themes and programs as well as scientific and technological projects; enhance and improve science and technology potentials; strengthen technological appraisement and examination of investment projects; introduce ISO system of public administrative service to 8 – 10 sectors based on Prime Minister’s decision of 144, strengthen scientific and technological inspection activities, scale up models of informatics net on science and technology at commune level within the whole province (set up the project till 2010), speed up transfer and application of research results from DoST to relevant departments and other sectors of the province.

 

In the second part, Dr. Truong Thanh Cong mentioned the achievement of implementation of the pilot project for seaside anti-erosion treatment by “stabiplage” technology on Loc an zone and research results of dealing with water whirlpool for provincial coastal zone.

 

Mr. Tran Minh Sanh, the chairman of the PPC directed the DOST to concentrate on dealing with specific plans for carrying out projects that its socio-economic effectiveness can be highly assessed after they are applied in production and business with the purpose of economic development. Furthermore, in order to be able to apply technology solution for anti-erosion at other coastal zones, it is necessary to analyse and assess socio-economical and environmental effectiveness of the pilot project at Loc an. Besides, it is advisable to identify sensitive areas to put them in priority to be done before making decision. To treat water whirlpool problem, it is essential to mobilise the cooperation from international and domestic scientists to do fundamental researches to find feasibly technical solutions to deal with the problem.
