On 22 August, 2012, Approval Council chaired by Mr. Vuong Quang Can – Vice Director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Department of Science and Technology hold a meeting to approve project “Research diseases on sea fish grown in Ba Ria –Vung Tau” by B.A Bui Quang Manh (under Research Institute for Marine Fisheries – RIMF).

Currently, growing sea fish in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province is more developing in scale and diversity, therefore agents causing diseases are happening and becoming epidemic diseases. Meanwhile management techniques of environment and fish health are not assured and they are dead causing loss. Income and life of growers are effected.

Main target of project is to identify agents causing diseases in sea fish grown in Ba Ria – Vung Tau and propose prevention methods.

According to production result report of fishery raising in 2011 from Ba RiA Vung Tau Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, provincial fishery raising is increasing with growing area over 6000 hectars, focusing mainly in Districts like Long Son, Go Gang and Vung Tau City. However, phenomenon of environment pollution and epidemic diseases are always happening but does not still identify causes and effective prevention methods.

Diseases are happening in two periods of gender production and growing (mainly). Extensive farming methods are applied, especially innovating extensive farming. Their characters mainly depend on natural environment. Therefore diseases are happening in places having high environment pollution. And, fishery growers are using chemicals, banned antibiotics that seriously affecting biology environment, epidemic diseases are hard to be controlled.

Epidemic diseases in grown sea fish are happening more and more complicatedly bringing economic loss for growers. Research result will recommend growers in environment protection in order to reduce epidemic diseases. From there, controlled sea fish growing will have positive effects on environment contributing to its development process in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province. Ba Ria – Vung Tau is characterized with Con Dao District, if sea fish growing developed in Con Dao will have not only positive effects on social-economic aspect but also contribute to affirm sovereignty and marine security of Viet Nam. Thus Council agreed to approve project for performance in reality.
