Conference on dissemination of laws on radiation safety in 2018

With the permission of the Provincial People's Committee, on April 27, in Vung Tau city, the Department of Science and Technology coordinated with the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety (VARANS) to hold a conference on laws on radiation safety in 2018. Attending the conference were Mr. Le Quang Hiep - Deputy Director of Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety, Mr. Nguyen Kim Truong - Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology and representatives from governemnt departments, city and district People's Committees, representatives of radiation facilities in industry and medical organizations in the province.

In recent years, work to improve radiation safety in the province of BR-VT has been received increasing attention. However, management radiation safety in some industrial and medical facilities has not been properly considered and monitored. This has increased difficulties for government supervisionand directly impacted the health of staff working with radiation resources and safety officers. Speaking at the conference, Nguyen Kim Truong, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology, commented: "In Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, in addition to fixed radiation sources, businesses using mobile sources have to be strictly managed in the process. transportation and operation. Being aware of this issue, we found it necessary to organize training on awareness of radiation safety, through which we would also like enterprises to be more aware and take measures such as updating information and ensuring radiation safety ".

 

At the conference, Mr. Le Quang Hiep, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety presented topics on the current status of management of radioactive sources, radiation equipment and radioactive waste in industry and medical facilities. Topics included legal documents on radiation safety, measures to manage environmental radioactive safety; response to radiation and nuclear accidents; coordination responsesin radiation incidents, etc. The delegates also discussed about laws on radiation and nuclear safety, radiation incidents and best practices.
