On the morning of December 11, the Department of Science and Technology organized a Advisory Council to select the topic “Research, identifying the causes of salinity and proposing solutions to limit impacts in the area of Bung field, Phuoc Hoi commune, Dat Do district ”.

Participating in the Council were Deputy Director of Department of Science and Technology, Mr. Tran Duy Tam Thanh, Chairman of the Council, along with members of the Council who are representatives of Ho Chi Minh City Irrigation Science and Technology Association; Institute Of Agricultural Science For Southern Vietnam; Southern Institute Of Water Resources Research; Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province; Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province, ...

There are three profiles including: Institute for Environment and Resources; Institute For Water And Environment Research;  Institute for Agricultural Environment.

The goal of the topic is to determine the causes, assess the level of salinity and propose a number of solutions. The main contents are: collecting, investigating and adding necessary data to assess the current status and level of salinity in the Bung field according to historical developments, space and time; identifying causes and mechanisms of salinity and finding out the main causes; piloting and applying information technology in salinity monitoring and warning; proposing economic, social and technical solutions to limit and overcome the phenomenon of salinity in the Bung field area.

It is known that the phenomenon of salinity in the Bung field has appeared for more than six years, causing 10 hectares of agricultural land that are impossible to cultivate. This affected directly the lives of people in the area. However, up to now, there is still no official studies to clearly identify the causes of the saline soil situation in Bung field, as well as propose solutions to overcome this situation. Based on domestic and foreign studies done, it can be seen that there are not many studies on saline soils for a small, specific area like Bung field. Thus, a comprehensive study on salinity status in Bung field should be urgently implemented together with solutions to limit the impact of saline soils for this area. Besides, the application of technological solutions should be researched and used with priority in order to increase efficiency, novelty and creativity for this topic. When the project is implemented, it will provide all necessary information for the local people and authorities, as well as propose solutions to limit the impact in the Bung field. It also give recommendations for similar areas.

After the topic managers presented explanations and implementation plans, the Council members asked questions, criticized and made comments on the records.

Based on the comments on the overview, contents, methods, budgets, implementation time of the three profiles, the Council members voted to evaluate the results of the Institute For Water And Environment Research, by Dr. Vo Cong Hoang registered as head manager, was asked to be accepted. However, it is necessary to complete the topic according to the suggestions of the Council before implementation./.
