Top IT leaders and experts will gather in Ha Noi on June 26 for the Viet Nam ICT Summit 2012 with an eye to boost the nation's technology infrastructure, a key factor in the development of the national economy.

The annual summit, with the theme "IT and Telecommunications – National Core Infrastructure", was expected to attract 500 top participants from the Government, academia and business, with applications to transportation, healthcare, education and e-government to top the agenda of the two-day summit, according to the event organiser, the Viet Nam Software Association. Viet Nam's IT industry over the past few years has achieved a continuous growth rate of 3-4 times that of annual GDP. According to statistics of the Ministry of Information and Communication, industry revenue in 2011 reached over US$16 billion, including software and digital content contributing the fastest growth rate and contributing $2 billion to the total. Under the project Making Viet Nam Into a Strong IT Country, the IT sector was becoming an important engine to ensure growth and sustainable development. By 2020, the industry was expected to account for 8-10 per cent of GDP. Viet Nam has also targeted joining the top ten countries in provision of outsourcing services and digital content to rank in the top third in e-Government readiness.
