Minister Nguyen Quan appreciated Japan’s cooperation with and assistance for Vietnam in atomic energy field and informed VN nuclear power development program as well as responsibilities of MOST in this program. He also gave some cooperation requests in this field such as safety verification of Japan consultant reports, sharing lessons learned after Fukushima, assisting VN nuclear regulatory body (VARANS) to develop legal framework and human resources, reviewing amendment of some issues of Atomic Energy Law related to licensing, emergency response, compensation for nuclear damage. In the framework of the working program, Ministers of two sides witnessed the signing ceremony of Memorandum of cooperation regarding the improvement of national legal system on compensation for nuclear damage between VARANS and Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, METI.

On 14 August, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan Yukio Edano came to visit and work with Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
