On the morning of April 16, the Department of Science and Technology organized an Advisory Council to select organizations and individuals to implement the project "Research and building a model of Stingless beekeeping to get honey in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province". Chairman of the council is Mr. Mai Thanh Quang - Director of Department of Science and Technology. The project is headed by Mr. Ngo Quang Huong, Southern Bee Research Center is the lead agency.

The goals of the project are to research and to build a model of Stingless beekeeping in the province in order to effectively exploit the potential of natural resources. Additionally, the project will contribute to create more jobs that increase income for people in agricultural production areas, forest areas as well as to create many precious products that have high economic value to serve domestic consumption demand and to build a local special agricultural brand.

It is known that Stingless bees are endemic bees that survive only in countries with tropical climate, subtropical with hot and humid climate. In these countries, there are a diversity of bile and pollen source trees. However, because the productivity of Stingless bee products compared to honey bee farming is much lower, Stingless bees are less focused on breeding in the past decade, mainly used for households and medicine in some places. Thanks to the development of chromatographic analysis techniques, and many experimental studies assessing the quality of bee products, consumers have gained more knowledge of the value of bee products, along with their demand. Especially, the trade demand of these products is on the rise in the world. The research results on the biology of Stingless bees, beekeeping experience and building commercial beekeeping model in countries that have development experiences like Malaysia is very valuable. These results should be studied and learned to create new solutions that are adaptable to apply with the varieties of Stingless bees growing in Vietnam in general and BR-VT province in particular.

According to the Council, the project meets its requirements. However, it is necessary to complete the project following the Council's suggestions before deploying it.
