On July 10, the Department of Science and Technology organized a scientific workshop "Collecting expert opinions on developing a plan to implement the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation Development in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province to 2030". This is an important event to create a forum to exchange and contribute opinions on developing a plan to implement the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation Development (S&I) in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province to 2030 based on the contents and tasks in Decision No. 569/QD-TTg dated May 11, 2022 of the Prime Minister on promulgating the Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation Development to 2030.

Attending and chairing the workshop were Mr. Pham Quang Nhat - Director of the Department of Science and Technology, along with leading experts in the fields of planning, strategy for developing science, technology and innovation, regional linkages, digital transformation, economics, public policy, intellectual property, technology transfer, innovative startups and artificial intelligence; representatives of departments under the Department; relevant departments, branches and sectors in the province.

Science, technology and innovation play an increasingly important role, being one of the resources promoting the strong socio-economic development of each country as well as each locality. In particular, the strong impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution increasingly affirms the role of science, technology and innovation as an international competitive potential. Technological innovation capacity is one of the basic criteria for ranking the competitiveness of countries.

Mr. Tran Duy Tam Thanh also emphasized that this workshop is very important in determining directions, tasks, and scientific and technological solutions to serve the sectors and fields. At the same time, the Department will acquire comments from experts to orient and resolve related issues to include in the province's political reports, orienting thematic Resolutions in the period 2025-2030.

With 7 presentations and direct comments at the Workshop, experts clarified the main contents such as: Synchronous development of science, technology and innovation; research institutes and universities as strong research centers; connecting science and technology with innovation, and improving the research and innovation capacity of the science, technology and innovation community; developing the innovation ecosystem and the innovation startup ecosystem; arousing passion and aspiration; creating inspiration and motivation for science, technology and innovation activities; enhancing the sense of responsibility, research capacity, technological level and creativity of subjects in all socio-economic activities in the province. Moreover, it is important to proactively and positively approach and fully exploit the opportunities and achievements of the fourth industrial revolution. In particular, it also concern about promoting fundamental, comprehensive and synchronous innovation of the organization, management mechanism and S&T operation mechanism in the direction of linking with practice, suitable to the characteristics of S&T and innovation activities, taking efficiency as the measure.

In his concluding remarks at the workshop, Mr. Pham Quang Nhat  received and highly appreciated the suggestions and discussions at the workshop. The presentations clarified the current situation as well as proposed a number of very noteworthy solutions. At the same time, Mr. Pham Quang Nhat also provided additional information and clarified some of the contents of the experts' comments and discussions. He emphasized that science plays a very important role, it is necessary to identify and analyze the strengths, weaknesses, and challenges affecting the development of science and technology. From there, science, technology and innovation become an important driving force in the socio-economic development of the province.
