Viettel to cut mobile phone tariffs (31/07/2010)
HA NOI — The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has approved a proposal from military-run mobile phone service provider Viettel to reduce phone tariffs by 10-15 per cent, starting a new charge reduction race among providers.
The reduction will be applied to its post-paid subscribers with charges set for a basic package of VND890 per minute for internal-network and VND990 for internal-network calls, VND100 lower than previous levels.

NIST researchers grow nanowires made of semiconductors -- gallium nitride alloys -- by depositing atoms layer-by-layer on a silicon crystal under high vacuum. NIST has the unusual capability to produce these nanowires without using metal catalysts, thereby enhancing luminescence and reducing defects. NIST nanowires also have excellent mechanical quality factors.

Largest freshwater fish on verge of extinction (29/07/2010)
The population of the Mekong giant catfish has plummeted 90 percent in just two decades and the species are at risk of extinction, says a new WWF report.
According to the report titled River of Giants: Giant Fish of the Mekong, the world's biggest freshwater fish and four out of the top 10 giant freshwater fish species can be found in the Mekong River, which flows through Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
But their existence has been threatened by a combination of infrastructure development, habitat destruction and overharvesting, the WWF said.

World Food Festival opens in Ba Ria-Vung Tau (23/07/2010)
Thousands of local people and tourists are gathering at the 2010 World Food Festival which officially opened in Vung Tau City in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province on July 21. 500 different dishes are displayed on a 3-km session of Thuy Van Street under the banners “Taste the World”. Artists from 31 countries and 31 Vietnamese cities and provinces will perform more than 350 pieces of traditional music, dance and theatre.
