Currently, PV Gas South is calling upon the enterprises in the oil and gas industry to implement the Resolution No. 2958/NQ-DKVN of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) on changing the fuel into CNG for automobile of member units. It is expected this solution shall give economic efficiency and contribute to reducing environmental pollution.

Currently, PV Gas South is calling upon the enterprises in the oil and gas industry to implement the Resolution No. 2958/NQ-DKVN of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) on changing the fuel into CNG for automobile of member units. It is expected this solution shall give economic efficiency and contribute to reducing environmental pollution.

CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) has methane CH4 as main component. This component is got from natural gas mine through processing and compressed at high pressure (250atm) for storage. Because of lacking of benzene and high-level hydrocarbon, CNG does not release toxic gases such as NO2, CO… and dust and it also give high heat quantity. Density of CNG is lower than the air and if CNG is released to external environment, CNG shall dissipate to the high position, not accumulate as gasoline steam, so it limits explosion. With foresaid advantages, CNG is replacing gasoline gradually, oil and Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on the world.  

Compressed Natural Gas technology appears in Vietnam at the first time with appearance of CNG plant at Phu My 1 Industrial Zone, Tan Thanh District, Ba Ria Vung Tau province, starting operation from the late August 2008.  On May 2010, for the purpose of limiting environmental pollution and preventing the climate change due to a green and fresh environment, (PetroVietnam) issued the Resolution No 2958/NQ-DKVN on changing and using CNG fuel for total automobiles at member units of the Group in Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria – Vung Tau province (Expected 600 automobiles). Accordingly, the Group assigns PetroVietnam Corporation (PV Gas) and PetroVietnam Southern Joint Stock Company (PV Gas South) to make plan of changing and using CNG for automobiles of member units in the agency. At the same time, PV Gas and PV Gas South are also assigned to invest in erecting exchanger and use CNG for automobile and in constructing CNG station to sell CNG for member units in the agency to ensure the convenience, safety and economic efficiency for users.

The changing of usage fuel from CNG for automobiles is very necessary because it reduces large fuel cost (from 30-50%) and reduce environmental pollution according to policy of PetroVietnam Group on upholding internal force and co-operation program of oil and gas agency with Ho Chi Minh City and Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province. CNG is cheap fuel (At the present, price of CNG is lower than that of gasoline and liquidated petrol gas), clean and suitable to transportation service in big cities and industrial zones. That is reason why experts appreciate that development potential of CNG is very large, promising to give economic efficiency and environment protection
