Accelerate construction progress of port projects

BR-VT province presently has 52 port projects, including 21 projects went into operation, 12 projects were constructed, 15 are under investment preparation and 4 additional planning projects. STRONG TRANSFORMANCE OF CAPITAL

The port projects of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province concentrate in deep water areas such as Thi Vai - Cai Mep, Long Son - Vung Tau, Dinh River - Vung Tau and Con Dao. In the last time, despite difficulties in finance, port investors had invested much effort in implementing the projects.

Presently, the province has 3 projects continuing to complete Phase 2 (SITV port, Tan Cai - Mep port, Vina Offshore port) with the total investment of VND55,008 billion, made VND16,173 billion, up 30 %. In which, Thi Vai - Cai Mep port has 11 projects, transformed VND15,453 billion; Dinh River - Vung Tau area has 4 projects, implemented VND720 billion.

Along with the intensification of project implementation, investors also promote and completed investment preparation for 15 projects, with a total investment of VND62,543 billion which executed VND 831 billion, mainly fund for compensation, site clearance and establishment of investment projects.

According to the Department of Transport, the amount of funds derived from registration into implementation in 2010 achieved a pretty high result, about VND7399 billion, up about 12% compared to 2009.

Director of BR-VT Department of Transport Vu Ngoc Thao commented, generally implementing the construction of seaport system in the province complied with the Government’s approved plan. The nature and scale of ports were invested in accordance with the proposed targets in the direction of the world modernization and technological process of port operation. Relocating the Saigon port was complied with the Government guidance, step by step developed the BR-VT port system to become the main port system for the Southern region and the country in the coming years.

PERFECT INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEM

The output of goods through the port system in the province has increased rapidly in recent years; estimably, the output of goods passed the ports in 2011 will reach 44.74 million tons. Freight demand rises, that requires the coming ports soon to put into operation.

On 16 December 2010, at the conference of socioeconomic development targets and the State budget estimation in 2011, the amount which the provincial People’s Committee allocated the capital plan in 2011 for port projects in the province area was VND7013 billion, of which foreign investment capital made up VND4940 billion, domestic investment capital accounted for VND2073 billion.

Derived from the actual situation and exploitation activities of the ports, difficulties of investors, the provincial People"s Committee petitioned to the Prime Minister and the ministries, departments to allocate funds early for implementation of the port projects; Allocate funds for 2 roads Phuoc Hoa2 - Cai Mep, 991B, inter-port and Go Gang road and bridge; and also speed up construction to upgrade the National Highway 51. Currently, the Thi Vai - Cai Mep channel in Phu My port belongs to the Thi Vai - Cai Mep international project has started dredging in 2009, but the rest from Phu My to Go Dau which belongs to Thi Vai – Cai Mep and Dinh river channel has no any plans for dredge. The Department of Transport proposed the provincial People’s Committee to propose the Department of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration to have the dredging plan as soon as possible in order to meet the needs of the port operation and exploitation in the area.
