On August 17th, at Vung Tau city, provincial People’s Committee combined with HCM city’s University of Social and Human Culture Science held scientific seminar “Con Dao – 150 years of struggling, building and developing (1862 – 2012). Delegates attended the seminar including 120 scientists, researchers, managers, officers who are working for museums, culture offices of BR-VT, Con Dao district and Con Dao former prisoners.

On August 17th, at Vung Tau city, provincial People’s Committee combined with HCM city’s University of Social and Human Culture Science held scientific seminar “Con Dao – 150 years of struggling, building and developing (1862 – 2012). Delegates attended the seminar including 120 scientists, researchers, managers, officers who are working for museums, culture offices of BR-VT, Con Dao district and Con Dao former prisoners. Speaking at opening ceremony of the seminar, Mr. Tran Ngoc Thoi – Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee took a brief introduction about Con Dao in period of 150 years of founding, building and developing. Con Dao was called “ Hell on the earth” during 113 years under the rule of colonialism and imperialism, Con Dao now are changing everyday and becomes wonderful destination of home and foreign tourists. However, exploiting and upholding historic, economic and cultural value of Con Dao pointed out many problems for social-economic development and security – national defense. Through this seminar, BR-VT province more contributed scientific evidences and practical experiences to plan a development policy for present and future. Scientists, researchers stated some reports and opinions as well as scientific proof relating to following contents: historical background and progress of foundation, consolidation and complete of prison system at Con Dao district, prison regime and administration of enemy toward prisoners during various period of time. Struggle of politic prisoners and others to fight against colonial and imperial regime and their henchman through historical period (1862 – 1975). Impact of prison regime and prisoner’s struggle at Con Dao toward national liberation of Vietnamese people and antiwar movement that support Vietnam. Leading and guidance of Party Committee of Con Dao during periods of revolutionary struggle etc.
